HIMYM Phrases

If you don’t watch How I Met Your Mother, the listed words above probably don’t make much sense. But if you do then this group of words makes perfect sense. How I Met Your Mother is a unique show with random musical numbers, catch phrases, AND romance. These characteristics in combination with the fact that How I Met Your Mother is a funny and sarcastic comedy show make for a wide variety of viewers. I’d like to know what this fandom discusses and shares online. I hope to learn more through a thorough hashtag study of #HIMYM and exploring related blogs, Twitter accounts, and news.

I thought to study this hashtag because I am a big fan and it is just one of those shows where 30 minutes is never nearly long enough. This season is the show’s 9th and final season. I love the show because it makes me laugh and connect with the characters, so I hoped that the online community would do the same. So much of my school work is serious, and I think that this is a great opportunity to have fun and explore a new type of research via tweets. This season should be especially fascinating because we are finally “meeting the mother”, so I am curious to see how the community reacts to this and other events this season has to offer. I hope to better understand how fans of a tv show share and communicate through Twitter, if at all.

If you have any questions, or would like to follow along with my study follow me on Twitter @stefparker7.

Update: 12/26/13

I have learned so much about the whole HIMYM community, including the fact that Facebook is just as popular, if not more so than the Twitter community. But in my Twitter research I found that almost two-thirds of the tweets were either quotations or expressing an emotional connection with the show. If you would like to check out my hashtag presentation I have included it below, or feel free to check out my past blog posts in relation to the HIMYM community.
